Southbank’s Fatto has introduced a special section inside the restaurant with takeaway panini, salads and bomboloni.

For anyone who spends time around the Arts Centre precinct, there’s a new takeaway option to add to your hit list.

Fatto Bar and Cantina has opened a new deli section inside the Southbank diner, with takeaway options ranging from panini to antipasti, prepared by the restaurant’s chefs.

“Although it’s a laidback deli … the chefs of the kitchen both prepare and serve the food, meaning there’s a beautiful continuity to the venue,” head chef James Kummrow.

You can purchase takeaway packs of antipasti, including various salami and cured meats, cheeses and Conservas Ortiz canned seafood. There are a number of salads, with the option to add a protein such as poached chicken or seared tuna. Kummrow says if you can’t make a decision, make it a panino.

Bread from The Authentic Village Baker is filled with, among other things, pork belly marinated for 24 hours in Dijon mustard, fennel seeds and dill, then loaded up with provolone cheese, apple and salsa verde.

Other variations include a chicken Cotoletta sandwich and a tuna melt with spring onion and provolone cheese.

All of these newcomers can be found be at the slick new dedicated deli counter designed by Projects of Imagination, which you can’t miss with its vintage-style theatre signage, which pays tribute to its location on the upper terrace of Hamer Hall.

Sit in, or take your panino and requisite bomboloni to the riverside or nearby parks to devour. Salute.

Fatto Deli is open Monday to Friday, 12pm to 5pm at 100 St Kilda Road, Melbourne.
