The independent clothing brand springs up on Greville Street for a summer stint.
For such a petite street, there are plenty of reasons to visit Greville Street. The blend of boutiques, specialty stores and restaurants is a condensed picture of what Prahran has to offer. It’s exactly what has drawn Fitzroy-based clothing brand Handsom to open a summer pop-up there.
“Out of all the places on the south side, Greville Street feels the most comfortable. It’s kind of like Gertrude Street,” says Sam Rush, the co-founder of Fitzroy-based clothing label, Handsom.
The Australian unisex brand has just opened a summer pop-up on the strip, which will run until the end of January next year. The laid-back label stocks functional, everyday basics – textured shirts, soft knits, good-quality plain tees at a reasonable price. It’s not fussed with statement clothing – just the bits and pieces you need to round out your wardrobe.
“We’d like to make Greville Street a permanent store, but we have to test the waters first,” says Rush.
Along with Handsom’s minimalist spring/summer line, the pop-up is also stocking products from Australian brands including Pared Eyewear, Newend Jewellery and Milly Dent’s beautiful, swirly, blue ceramics line. Shoes by Birkenstock and Royal Republik are also there to finish off your Handsom look.
The high-ceilinged fit-out filled with light-timber clothing racks complements Handsom’s current line – clean, and unpretentious.
The Handsom Prahran pop-up runs until the end of January 2016.
