Ever wanted to try watermelon and feta ice cream? You can at this Greek gelateria and waffle house.
Before Pagoto settled into Oakleigh, there was a concerning lack of gelato in the restaurant-dominated area. After the success of Pagato’s sister store in Sydney, the gelato and waffle house was brought down to Melbourne.
Of the 32 flavours on offer at Pagoto, some are unheard of even to the most ardent gelato connoisseur.
Greek-inspired specialties include visino flavour (sour cherry), galaktoboureko (traditional custard pastry) and loukoumathes (Greek donuts). Also well worth sticking a spoon in are watermelon and feta; ouzo; and baklava.
Waffles topped with peanut butter, smashed Pavlova and more are also available. If you’re just in for a drink, frappes and Allpress coffee are your jam.
There’s plenty of space to sit and chat amid the dark timber walls and spray-painted murals. If you do decide to dine in, you’ll notice they’ve paraphrased Hippocrates on one of the walls: “Eat ice, as it livens the life juices and increases well being”. Go on, then – doctor’s orders.
