The Affordable Answer to Spring Carnival: Hiring a Dress

Originally published on Hussh.

Renting is a master’s way of filling the closet without draining the wallet.

The popping up of ‘hire-a-dress’ services (we’re going to call them the fairy godmothers of the shopping industry) has completely changed the game of preparing for formal occasions. You can now hire an $1000 dress, for $150. Insane.

These saviours are well aware that most of the time us girls buy a dress, wear it once, and then stuff it in the crevices of our closets.

That’s why they’ve sought out to assist with financially draining events such as the races. The list of things to purchase is enormous as it is– entrance tickets, parking, food, drinks, shoes, bets…

Glam Corner is the online guru of formal occasion hire, and totally spoils its users for choice. The website has a curated section with 413 pieces perfect for the races. Alongside dresses you’ll find clutches, fascinators and jewellery.

How Glam Corner works:

Options please!

The Cady Selena Slit Dress by Milly, rent for $169 (retails at $675).

The Floral Affair Midi Dress from Talulah, rent for $69! Retails at $240.

The Bed of Roses Dress by Thurley, rent for $109 (retails at $459).

Yeojin Bae’s Double Crepe Lisette Dress, hire for $109 (retails at $570).

To top your look off, try Morgan and Taylor’s Leather Laser Cut Crown. Hire for $39 (retails at $139).

And to carry all your goodies, the Sash Geo Diamante Oval Pod by Olga Berg, rent for $39 (retails at $149).

One Night Stand Boutique has also just moved into Hawthorn, after success at its flagship store in Adelaide. The store’s hire collection includes pieces from leading Australian designers such as:

  • Elle Zeitoune
  • Aelkemi
  • Bronx & Banco
  • Zimmermann
  • Nicholas
  • Shona Joy
  • Bec & Bridge
  • Maurie & Eve
  • Alice McCall
  • And Sass & Bide

How it works:

One Night Stand Boutique’s hire pieces are available for viewing on their Facebook page or Instagram. After selecting which lucky dress hitting the races with you, you can simply ‘book’ a dress either in store, via email or over the phone.

There is the choice to pick up your order in store, or have it delivered.

Note that a $100 bond (this may fluctuate depending on your order) is also due when the booking is made, and then refunded after the dress is returned (via credit card the dress was delivered to you). See One Night Stand Boutique’s full hire policy and conditions here.
